An appreciation letter circulating on social media indicating that it was written by Raila Odinga's secretariat on Monday to appreciate Royal Media Services for its coverage of Monday demos is Fake.
The viral letter is addressed to Royal Media Services, thanking them for the coverage of the picketing by Citizen TV.
It also thanked the founder and chairperson of RMS, SK Macharia for "standing with Kenya."
"I want to register my sincere acknowledgement and appreciation of your support during today's (Monday) peaceful demonstration to defend our democracy. Citizen Television did an outstanding job to show Kenya and the world the determination of Kenyans to defend their democracy and reclaim their stolen victory in last year's election," part of the statement reads.
The fact checker has, however, established that the letter is fake.
The ODM party in a tweet flagged the letter as fake
"This letter is FAKE," it said.
The ODM party usually posts statements related to the party and the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition at large on its social media pages.
A scan through its pages has however shown that it did not post this particular notice, except one flagging it as fake.
Earlier on Tuesday, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna thanked the media for their presence during Monday’s protest.
Replying to a statement in a newspaper, through his Twitter handle, he claimed that the police officers had an intention of harming the peaceful protestors, but they were prevented by the presence of the media.
"Leo I salute the Kenyan Media. Your presence and your cameras saved lives yesterday. The police were intent on harming peaceful protesters," he said.
