The report claims that Kalonzo withdrew from the demonstrations, saying he was saving his people from more suffering.

"I would like to distance myself from maandamano. My people have suffered enough under selfish individuals and I don't want to see them fall into that trap again," the alleged statement by Kalonzo read.

In a statement on her Twitter handle, the Communications lead of the Kalonzo Command Centre Paloma Gatabaki denied the reports.

She said the Ukambani kingpin will be taking part in the March 20.

"Our attention has been drawn to this image circulating in social media using Kenyans.co.ke frame. This is FAKE NEWS" the tweet read.

"Kalonzo Musyoka's stance is clear and unequivocal: Lower the cost of living and end electoral malpractice. No amount of intimidation will alter our stand."

Kalonzo has since retweeted the tweet.

Affirming his presence at Monday's event, Kalonzo noted that the state of the economy is skyrocketing at a high rate and Kenyans should raise their voices or perish.

He spoke on Friday during an Azimio Kiambu County tour through Ruaka - Kiambu- Kirigiti - Ruai – Githurai.

Kalonzo maintained that the protests will be peaceful and urged Kenyans to join them.

He said that Kenyans are suffering and it’s high time for them to be liberated from bad leadership.

"Our demonstrations will be peaceful and will not target anyone. We won’t relent until servers are opened," Kalonzo said.

The image is circulating a day after Azimio leader Raila Odinga said he was not going to be intimidated into calling off the March 20, protests.
