CORRIDORS OF POWER

Will sharing political positions become the next fault line in a key political alliance? That appears to be the question unsettling one political camp in a cosmopolitan county. Corridors of Power has learnt that disquiet is growing within one of the coalition's constituent parties over fears that a single community could dominate the allocation of key elective positions ahead of the 2027 General Election. Some party insiders privately claim one of their coalition partners is allegedly backing the perceived arrangement, contrary to what they describe as an earlier understanding. The uncertainty is said to have rattled some senior political figures, with a section arguing that if consensus proves elusive, each party should simply field its own candidates and let voters decide.

Politics, they say, has no permanent favourites. That lesson may be dawning on a politician who, only a few months ago, was widely viewed by his supporters as the frontrunner for a coveted position. Corridors of Power has learnt that the emergence of a new political movement has left the once-confident aspirant increasingly uneasy. Insiders say even some of his closest allies, including members of his own party, now appear to be hedging their bets as loyalties shift with the changing political landscape. To compound his predicament, other names are increasingly being floated for a position that many had long assumed was his to lose. Sources say the politician has allegedly intensified consultations and lobbying efforts in a bid to revive his prospects. Some observers however believe the political space around him is becoming increasingly crowded despite the considerable personal sacrifices he is said to have made.

A former legislator from a vote rich region seems to be on the fence. a confused lot. After months of identifying with one of the political outfits in the United Opposition, the politico has now supposedly made an about turn and is now indicating he will seek an elective seat of a party that appears to be the force to reckon with in the region. The problem, however, might be that he is coming in too late and may disrupt some arrangements the party leader might have put in place in building a line up in the critical county.

Which city lawyer is learning the hard way that choosing sides in a family boardroom war can come at a steep professional cost? Little birds whisper that the advocate purportedly found himself caught between feuding directors over tens of millions of shillings held in a client account, only to end up on the wrong side of the disciplinary tribunal. Instead of seeking the court's guidance, as expected of a prudent practitioner, he allegedly kept holding onto the cash while entertaining competing instructions from rival camps. As they say in legal circles, when elephants fight, even the lawyer can get trampled.
