A SENIOR OFFICER who had become the face of a parastatal
has finally been demoted and unceremoniously shipped off to a remote county
outpost. The man, known for his insatiable appetite for the limelight,
had reportedly unofficially
crowned himself the agency's de facto spokesperson, often sidelining his
superiors, and dominating the airwaves during times of crisis. Why the transfer? We
are told his relentless media appearances and obsession with being the voice of
the agency allegedly rubbed his bosses the wrong way, especially
when he began issuing statements on sensitive matters without clearance.

DID A TOP power figure bulldoze the management of
a key public infrastructure to channel proceeds from its coffers to his
personal account? Well, a fly on the wall tells this column that the man has
successfully combined threats, blackmail and weaponisation of coercive
institutions into a potent mix that has yielded him the sizeable daily sum.
The section that was allocated to him was reportedly freshly
constructed immediately he took office, in what is a continuing web of alleged abuse
of office and state capture. Investigative officers with sa pine need to act in the
public interest and stop the mess.

JUST WHAT IS preventing an investigative agency
from summoning this county boss for questioning over the misuse of public funds?
Despite recommendations from a parliamentary watchdog committee that the county boss be charged, nothing has happened
several months down the line, raising concerns among the members. Could it be that some officers were supposedly bribed
to delay the case? This was the talk among some members of a committee when
they met to review their reports last week. Meanwhile, the county boss continues to operate
unperturbed, with more cases of funds misuse allegedly emanating
from the office.

A GROUP OF politicians from a Mt Kenya county
are reportedly being
accused of hypocrisy over their recent remarks about getting special treatment
in county allocations, share of high-ranking
positions and other government goodies. They claimed the county has the
second biggest vote basket and population, thus justifying special treatment
different from other counties in the region. But also, the politicians, who are
opposed to a top opposition leader from the region, are said to be seemingly taking the residents for blockheads, as their remarks are not
different from the politico’s, whom they accuse of causing division and
tribalism.
