A recently appointed state official is reportedly struggling to adjust to the constant presence of bodyguards. Now at the helm of one of the country's most powerful institutions, the man has yet to come to terms with the level of security that accompanies his new position. Sources say during a recent outing in one of Nairobi’s upmarket neighbourhoods, he asked his security detail to leave and allow him to spend time privately with his old friends. However, the officers politely declined, explaining that leaving him unguarded could put their jobs—and his safety—at risk. They reminded him that he is now a high-ranking state official entitled to round-the-clock security. Reluctantly, the man agreed to let them stay, still clearly grappling with the realities of his elevated status.
