MCAs in a county in Nyanza have turned to be guns for hire. The ward reps are reportedly being used to settle political scores with county employees, with MPs and governor being some of their prime targets. A staff at the assembly said most of the MCAs have committed all their money after taking huge loans, leading to most of them resorting to survival tactics, which include forming extortion rings to intimidate other leaders. They demand bribes either in cash, tenders or ask for employment of their relatives.

A governor from a cosmopolitan county recently organised a meeting with MCAs at his private office to address rising tensions within the county government. However, the ward reps' demeanour left the governor in shock. They largely kept quiet while allegedly playing their cards under the table. Despite the governor's pleas to the MCAs to talk freely, none of them volunteered any information during the one hour meeting. The only comment came from the Minority leader, who just thanked the governor for the meeting and urged him to convene more get-togethers in the future.
