Is a Mwai Kibaki-era party considering one of the Central Kenya governors as its leader? Corridors has established that talks among the party stalwarts are at an advanced stage to instal the county boss as the outfit’s leader. A senior official was overheard saying they want to position the outfit as the ideal vehicle for the region to negotiate its stakes in 2022. The next move is to engage the Mt Kenya Unity Forum of small parties in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard as a compromise for the split among voters. There are grumbles, though, the influence of the county chief being propped to lead the team has never been tested.

Four parliamentary aspirants from a constituency in Bungoma county have realised it would be difficult to impossible to unseat the current MP. So they have joined forces. The four, who are prominent personalities in the area, recently met privately and came out saying they will settle on one of them to face the legislator. Residents are wondering how the four will pick the one they think has the best chances of beating their rival. They have also not named their party of choice. The MP, after getting wind of the plans, has embarked on a campaign to enlighten locals about his achievements.

A former senior official in a county assembly dominated by Jubilee seems to be on a retaliation mission. The ex-powerful official, who was forced out of office following sustained wrangles, has reportedly vowed to take revenge against officers whom he claims orchestrated his sacking. Sources close to him say he has reported at least five officers and MCAs to investigating agencies. He claims they pocketed millions through corrupt means. Ironically, the former official learnt he was on the list of those the anti-graft agency planned to pursue for embezzling millions of taxpayers' money. It’s said he’s been trying to influence the removal of his name from the list, promising to testify against the current officers and MCAs he’s keen to fix.

Is a leading governor aspirant from the Coast region considering running for the seat as an independent candidate? Corridors of Power understands the man could soon leave the party after revelations that the party honchos prefer his competitor. He’s said to have written to party officials, demanding their assurance of fair play and a level playing field, or he will leave. The party has yet to respond to his letter. Those in the know intimate the man may move away as soon as next month. Meantime, he'll have to wait and see as the clock ticks down fast to the 2022 General Election.
