Did some pro-handshake politicians from Mt Kenya snub a function attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga (pictured) in Nyeri county on Friday? A small bird has told Corridors of Power that despite the allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta being informed well in advance of Raila’s attendance at the event in Kieni constituency, they all kept off. They gave flimsy reasons in a Whatsapp group that brings together Kieleweke leaders. Only the area MP Kanini Kega was on hand to receive the former Prime Minister.

A governor and a senior government official on Friday night through Saturday morning are reported to have tried in vain to persuade MCAs from one of the counties in Mt Kenya not to attend a meeting with Deputy President William Ruto at his official Karen residence. According to a source in the know, the county boss and the senior government official who are both key figures in the 'stop Ruto movement' even went ahead to make financial offers to the county reps but they declined, leaving the two with egg on their faces.

Just what is happening at a police station in in Nyandarua county? Several police officers posted there have of late been asking to be transferred to other stations. The police officers complain that a senior officer has run amok and no one wants to work with him. They allege that the senior officer occasionally sides with criminals and coaches them to level false accusations against police officers. The officers say that they fear working under the man. For instance, two weeks ago, he took Sh50,000 from a suspect and coached him to say that a officer who had arrested him had assaulted him. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority was called in to investigate the case. The officer had to plead with Vigilance House to transfer him from the station. The police officers now want Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to intervene.

Talk is rife that a governor in a county in western Kenya could be fooling his deputy over his preferred successor. Residents have dismissed the county chief's recent endorsement of his deputy as the heir apparent and believe the governor will rally behind another person when the time comes. A local tells Corridors that the governor only speaks well of his deputy when he is in the constituency where he hails from. But when he is in other areas, he avoids succession politics. He is said to have once told a meeting that his deputy is hard to sell away from his home area.
