Did some top politicians snub invites to Labour Day celebrations on May 1 at State House, Nairobi? It is emerging that an influential figure at the centre of President Uhuru Kenyatta's (pictured) succession reportedly had summoned the team via Zoom and pointedly told them who 'the system's' preferred candidate was. Two of the politicians who have been positioning themselves for endorsement were shocked as they believed 'the system' chose them. The bad news on the eve of Labour Day forced them to call off their plans to attend the party as they didn't feel like celebrating.

A senior government official is reportedly planning to leave Kenya if the 2022 polls don't go his way. A small bird says the official believes he has been part of the political mess in the country and he could be the target of the next regime. The man is said to have started transferring some of his assets to close family members in case succession politics don't go according to his plan. It's understood he will be keenly following election results and if the trend takes a certain direction, he will leave the country on the day the final presidential results are announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman. He will have already packed his bags and bought his one-way ticket.

A second-term MCA is in trouble with auctioneers for defaulting on a loan. Last week, the ward representative, said to be flat broke, got into trouble with auctioneers who were accompanied by the police officers to collect his vehicle. The youthful MCA is said to have failed to honour his car loan payments. When the auctioneers cornered him just next to the assembly, a scuffle broke out. It took the intervention of the house leadership to rescue him from the auctioneer's hammer. The high end Toyota Land Cruiser is still parked at the assembly precincts. He has become a laughing stock among his colleagues for not living within his means.

A Cabinet Secretary could soon find himself in hot soup. Reason? A critical set of people in society have started complaining that the majority of them did not benefit from a kitty that was set aside for them last year to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. A source in the know tells Corridors of Power that the special group has been taken in circles on when they will be paid. It is reported that the kitty may have been diverted and pocketed by individuals who took advantage of the group.
