Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has been fronted to serve as the sugar sector champion in the Lake Region Economic Bloc.

On the final day of the region sugar conference, Busia Governor Paul Otuoma tasked Barasa with fast-tracking the implementation of the recommendations.

“We want Barasa to be the champion in LREB on matters of sugar, we will hold him to task and accountable. We don’t want to meet here for the same problems, we should be coming here to celebrate the success of the sugar sector,” Otuoma said.

Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko urged stakeholders to recommend a leader who will work with Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe towards improving the Sugar Bill 2022.

“We have been hosted by Barasa and we want him to take up this opportunity. At COG he holds the finance and economic planning position so he is best suited,” Ayacko said.

On his part, Barasa who is also the conference convener thanked the county bosses for entrusting him with the position.

“I accept this position with all humility, I accept the challenge of being the champion in this conversation. I will ensure that I follow up these resolutions to make them happen especially at the executive level,” Barasa said.
