Marsabit governor condoles with families of deceased accident victims

Governor Mohamud Ali visited the families who lost their loved ones in Saturday evening accident at their home in Hulahula on Monday evening

Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali on Monday condoled with the families who lost their loved ones in a Saturday evening accident that left three people dead and 114 passengers with severe injuries.

A driver of the lorry ferrying a group of people to a wedding ceremony lost control near Kambinye leading to the accident.

The Governor described the Hulahula- Kargi road accident as spine-chilling and wished quick recoveries to those injured during the accident.

"I wish on behalf of the people of Marsabit quick recoveries to those injured in a road accident and condole with the families of those killed," said Governor Mohamud

He said out of 114 victims admitted at the referral hospital, 80 were treated and discharged.

30 are still receiving medication and four other accident victims were referred to other health facilities for proper medication.

"It is with a deep sense of sorrow that I commiserate with the families of those that lost their lives in the fatal accident. Indeed their deaths have caused a dark cloud and great sorrow for their families," he said.

"May God grant the families and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and may the souls of the departed rest in peace."

Consoling the family in Hulahula, the governor said he will stand with the families that lost their loved ones.

The governor said the Marsabit County government has cleared medical expenses for the accident victims who were hospitalised.

The governor said his administration is determined to fix the health sector in order to provide quality healthcare services.

He applauded the staff and the management of Marsabit Referral Hospital for improving service delivery.

"I want to thank all the healthcare workers who have been working so hard to ensure that our people receive medical attention," said Governor Mohamud.

"Every step of progress that we make towards eradicating all of the problems that existed before is something that all of you and all of us can take pride in." 

The Governor appealed to casual workers to be patient and assured them that his administration will clear their 6- month wage arrears in three weeks.

Karare ward MCA Joseph Leruk lauded the marsabit county government for improving health services and praised Governor Mohamud for investing in the health sector.

" The work you have done to improve the health sector will undoubtedly yield positive effects on our people. he said

He commended Governor Mohamud Ali for his prompt interventions and a consolatory visit to the victims at the most trying moment in their lives.

The bereaved families expressed gratitude to Governor Mohamud Ali for his kind gesture.
