Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates this week published a seven-page letter on Tuesday outlining his views on the future of AI.

The businessman writes about how AI could be used in the workforce as a "digital personal assistant" to enhance employee productivity.

He predicted that AI could transform education in the next five to 10 years.

This, he said, will be by delivering content tailored to a student's learning style and learning what motivates individual students.

The Microsoft co-founder further talks about how AI could free up healthcare workers from certain tasks, including filing insurance claims, completing paperwork, and drafting doctor's visit notes.

Gates noted that AI's development is as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the Internet, and the mobile phone.

"It will change the way people work, learn, travel, get health care, and communicate with each other. Entire industries will reorient around it. Businesses will distinguish themselves by how well they use it," Gates said.

In his letter, Gates highlights his thoughts and how AI can be used as a tool to improve global inequities and improve people's productivity in the workplace, healthcare, and education.

"Other AI-driven improvements will be especially important for poor countries, where the vast majority of under-5 deaths happen."

He notes that many people in those countries never get to see a doctor, and AIs will help the health workers they do see be more productive.
