Retired army officers have appealed to Azimio leader Raila Odinga to reconsider his stance on Monday’s planned mass action.
Under the auspices of 'The Kenya Veterans for Peace,' the former army officers said Raila and his supporters should consider other avenues of airing their grievances.
While addressing a Press conference in Nairobi on Saturday, Executive chairman Robert Mbukua said the planned mass action could end up doing more harm than good to a country whose economy is reeling from the effects of Covid-19 pandemic.
“Whereas we acknowledge the need to safeguard the right of the Opposition to associate, we read ulterior motive on the part of the organisers especially when we study the demands against which the demonstrations are organised,” he said.
Present during the presser were national executive members among them Felistas Wambua (secretary), James Muriuki (vice chairman), Ibrahim Hussein (vice secretary) and Samuel Ouko (treasurer) among other officials.
The former army officers, however, concurred that the cost of living has gone up and life is unbearable for most Kenyans.
“It is true that most parents are struggling to provide basic needs to their children. It is true that a lot of our businesses are affected and many jobs have been lost and many employees are on the verge of losing the source of their income,” they said.
They, however, pointed out that the voice of reason must prevail to ensure no further damage is caused to the fragile economy.
