President William Ruto has told Azimio leader Raila Odinga that he will not yield to his demands as the Opposition holds a rally over an IEBC rigging dossier.
Ruto said he will not allow the peace and tranquillity of the country to be disrupted by a few individuals who are chasing personal interests.
The President warned that such rallies would disrupt the peace of the country and vowed that he will not let the country be held hostage by some people.
“There are people who are not happy we had peaceful elections and that is why they are back to their old ways,” he said.
“When God disrupted their plans, they were confused they had not planned demos because they thought the deep state would help them win the election. Now they are back to demos.”
Raila, who has been in South Africa is expected to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday at 11 am and thereafter proceed to Kamkunji for the People’s Baraza.
The Azimio leader has appealed to Kenyans to show up in large numbers at the Kamkunji Baraza “in the interest of the country.”
He will address his supporters on the damning report released by a whistleblower on the alleged manipulation of the August 9 elections results.
The dossier claimed Raila garnered 8,170,355 votes or 57.53 per cent of votes cast against President William Ruto's 5,915,973 votes (41.66 per cent of votes cast).
Speaking during a church service in Kirinyaga on Sunday, Ruto assured Kenyans that their day-to-day activities will not be disrupted by Opposition rallies.
“I will not allow a few to treat Kenyans to rallies so that we stop serving the citizens and work for them. The end has come; there is no more. What you got from threats should be enough because we cannot be working for a few people year in and year out,” the President said.
He claimed the Opposition is looking for ways to blackmail his administration.
“You can never hold this country, hostage, again. I will not allow it. Go ahead with your demonstrations but I will not listen to one person at the expense of millions of Kenyans,” he said.
Ruto said he wants to focus on improving agricultural productivity to address the high cost of living.
