Kisumu city management has organized a Christmas street festival that will run from December 23 to January 2.

The festival according to the acting city manager Abala Wanga will bring together the residents, stakeholders and business people within the lakeside city.

Preparations underway for the event at the Central Business District (CBD).

Abala said this will be a week to celebrate cultural diversity and to provide immense networking opportunities for businesses as they focus on the city's communal vision.

He said they intend to provide a platform to celebrate the many things that distinguish Kisumu from other cities.

The celebrations will be held within the Central Square, Kisumu sports ground, Oginga Odinga triangle ( Oginga Odinga streets and Jomo Kenyatta avenue).

"There will be full of activities ranging from, but not limited to, lighting the governor's Christmas tree and exhibitions. Christmas carols, general entertainment and entertainment by artists, children funfair - face painting, bouncing castles and other games."

The roads, he said, will be partially closed and traffic marshals will be available to direct motorists on alternative routes.

Abala added that supermarkets will be allowed to sell wares freely on the streets for children who have a playing area at the Central Park.

The streets to be partially closed are Oginga Odinga and Jomo Kenyatta.

"Security will also be beefed up within the city and its environs to allow the residents to carry on with their festivity that comes with the season," Abala said.
