Watch Party of the US-Africa leaders summit held in Nairobi on Tuesday has called for youth awareness in the implementation of Agenda 2063.
Agenda 2063 is a framework for Africa that aims to deliver on its goal in a 6o-year plan divided in 6 parts of 10 years each, begining January 2023.
Agenda 2063 aims to ensure sustainable development and concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, freedom, progress and the continent's collective prosperity.
The Tuesday meeting also aimed at getting a perspective on the future of US-Africa relations.
This comes after President William Ruto left the country on Monday to attend the US-Africa leaders summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Washington DC.
The US-Africa Leaders' Summit will be taking place from December 13- 15.
The summit offers an opportunity for African leaders to shape the continent's partnership with the US in trade, economy, security and political relations.
Nerima Wako, executive director of Siasa place said Africa's population is made up of youth so it is important for them to understand why the summit is important for Agenda 2063 by the AU.
Wako urged the youth to be informed of Agenda 2063 as they are key stakeholders to it's implementation.
Relevant issues such as climate change, GMO plants and business are key issues Nerima hopes could be discussed at the summit.
"People might see that we have a different passport for the East Africa community, but they don't understand that this is about integration in our region," She said.
Wako noted that there is now a big difference in how developed countries relate with African countries— They now place them on the table rather than commanding and telling them what to do.
She urged civil societies to educate the youth on Agenda 2063 to help hold the relevant agencies accountable.
