Ruto: Peace has prevailed in Kenya, God has given us victory

President-elect William Ruto has attributed post-election peace to God, despite alleging that some leaders rooted for violence.

Speaking in Njoro on Sunday, he said Kenyans especially in the Rift valley had a reason to thank God because of peace.

"This is our third Sunday service after Kenya went to Ballot and it's the first one we have had in Rift Valley. All of us as residents of Rift Valley have a reason to thank God,

"There are many who wanted to know what will transpire especially in the Rift Valley region after the elections were held," Ruto said.

The president-elect claimed that false prophets in the name of politicians had predicted negative post-election activities, especially in the Rift Valley region.

However, Ruto claimed that the God who gave him victory has also made it possible for the region to maintain peace.

He even went ahead and quoted one of the beatitudes in the Bible, Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”

"False prophets had predicted bad things and preached on tribalistic and hatred messages but God has enabled us to conduct peaceful elections and gave us victory," he added.

On August 15, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Deputy President William Ruto the President-elect after he defeated Raila and two other candidates in the poll on August 9.

Ruto was declared the winner with 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 per cent of the votes cast, against Raila’s 6,942,930 votes, or 48.85 per cent of the votes cast.

However, his competitor Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja One coalition rejected the results terming them "null and void" and promised a bruising battle at the Supreme Court.

He filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging  Ruto’s win in the August 9 poll.

The Supreme Court is expected to deliver its verdict on the presidential petition on Monday, September 5, 2022.

In addition,Ruto expressed gratitude to the people of  Nakuru for believing and voting for Kenya Kwanza leaders.

"I want to thank the people of Nakuru for believing in us and giving a the chance to lead you all," he said.

Ruto and other leaders of Kenya Kwanza had graced an interdenominational church service at Lamudiarc High School Grounds on Sunday.
