ODM candidates in Homa Bay have all clinched top county seats.
Homa Bay woman representative Gladys Wanga has been declared the winner for the county gubernatorial seat after a bruising political battle with Evans Kidero.
Wanga was announced to have won the seat by IEBC after garnering 244,559 votes against Kidero who got 154,182 votes.
Mark Rabudi of UDA emerged in position three after receiving 1244 votes.
Wanga who was vying for the seat on the ODM ticket was announced the winner by the county Homa Bay returning officer Fredrick Apopa.
She will now succeed Governor Cyprian Awiti whose second term and final end this month.
“I thank the people of Homa Bay for the support and confidence they have in me. I want to promise the residents that I will not let them down,” Wanga said.
Speaking after receiving her election provisional certificate, the governor-elect sent an olive branch to her main competitor Kidero.
She asked Kidero to join hands with her and develop Homa Bay as a county. Her running mate Oyugi Magwanga was also present.
“We want to run a non-discriminatory government. This will ensure we bring everybody on board and deliver service to the people,” she added.
Incumbent Senator Moses Kajwang of the ODM party also retained his seat after getting 353,882 votes.
Kajwang was followed by Tom Ojanga of KANU who got 18,290 votes while Kenneth Kambona got 17,775 votes.
Joyce Osogo of ODM was also declared the winner to succeed Wanga as a woman representative after getting 284,348 votes.
She defeated her competitors Moline Ngala who got 67,037 votes while Mary Ojode of DAP-K got 26,717 votes.
Melida Auma of UDA got 1,477 votes.
Kajwang attributed his win to the support residents give the ODM party and teamwork.
“We’ll work together as a team to ensure Homa Bay realizes its economic development through prudent use of resources,” Kajwang said.
Osogo said she has already known her development roadmap for transforming Homa Bay.
She thanked residents for supporting woman's leadership.
“We’re now going to engage in the implementation of projects for service delivery,” Osogo said.
