Government must enforce vaccination

Government is right to enforce vaccination by denying services to the unvaccinated who are putting their fellow citizens at risk by their antisocial behaviour.

In Summary

• Kenyans will not acess government services, or matatus and buses, unless they show they are fully vaccinated.

• Vaccines are not easily available free of charge at government clinics all across the country

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe during the Covid-19 media briefing at Afya House on May 27, 2021.

The government will not provide services to Kenyans who are not fully vaccinated after December 21. They will not be able to access KRA, NTSA, ports, schools, hospitals, or prisons without showing proof of vaccination. Only fully vaccinated people will be able to board matatus, buses, the SGR and planes.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that this is not 'mandatory' but, in practice, life will become unmanageable for people who are not vaccinated after December 21.

This is the right thing to do even if it will be unpopular in some quarters.

It is antisocial not to get vaccinated as it makes it easier for Covid-19 to spread in Kenya. Unvaccinated people put everyone they meet at risk.

It is now easy to get vaccinated with all types of vaccines. It is free. There is minimal risk. It is far riskier catching Covid. There is no excuse for not getting vaccinated.

If you are vaccinated, it reduces your chance of catching Covid by 90 percent. And if you still catch, your symptoms will be much milder.

So don't complain about these new government rules. Just go and get vaccinated.
