President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has highlighted the
transformative power of sports in promoting peace, unity, and national cohesion
as Somalia prepares for its upcoming general elections.
Addressing thousands of citizens gathered at Mogadishu
Stadium for the grand finale of the Districts Cup, President Mohamud described
sports as a language of peace and a way for our people, especially the youth,
to express hope, pride, and shared identity.
The President used the occasion to urge citizens to embrace
their democratic rights ahead of the elections.
“I want to tell all of you—come and vote, one person one
vote, in the next elections for the Banadir region. It is your right,” he said.
He praised the tournament as a symbol of Somalia’s recovery
and resilience, noting that the peaceful turnout demonstrated the nation’s
growing confidence and collective determination to move forward.
“Our progress is visible,” the President declared.
“Where there was fear, there is now joy. Where there was
division, there is now unity. Somalia’s strength lies in its people.”
The two-week competition, which featured 22 teams from
across the country, concluded with Hawlwadaag defeating Warshiikh 2–1 in a
thrilling final.
Over 60,000 jubilant fans filled Mogadishu Stadium,
transforming it into a sea of national colors, songs, and chants.
Among the dignitaries in attendance was the Mayor of
Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir Region, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab),
whose presence underscored the city’s return to stability after years of
turmoil.

Once occupied by extremist groups, Mogadishu Stadium now
stands as a symbol of Somalia’s resilience and renewal.
A venue once associated with conflict has been reclaimed by
the people, becoming a vibrant stage for unity, pride, and national healing.
Mogadishu Police Commissioner Mo’allim Mahdi, who also
attended the event, assured citizens of the government’s commitment to
maintaining peace and security as the country heads toward elections.
“Our people should celebrate and participate freely.
Mogadishu is secure, and peace will prevail,” he affirmed.
The Districts Cup final was more than a sporting event—it
was a national statement of hope.
The peaceful celebrations and collective joy in Mogadishu
reflected a country determined to define its future through peace,
participation, and shared purpose.
As Somalia’s youth continue to embrace sports as a unifying
force, President Mohamud’s message resonated clearly: the nation’s strength and
future lie in its people’s unity, resilience, and unwavering spirit.
