
The Russian Federation has reiterated its commitment to strengthen relations with Kenya.
Speaking during the celebration of the National Day of the Russian Federation, Ambassador Vsevolod Tkachenko said Russia is always ready to support the cooperation with Kenya and other partners.
He stated that over the years, ties between the two countries have continued to grow, with bilateral trade relations currently standing at USD 600 million (Sh77.5 billion).
“Russia values long standing relations with Kenya. Our economic ties are growing stronger and have reached USD 600 million,” Tkachenko said.
He noted that over the years, Russia has supported Kenya in other areas including skills acquisition and education among others.
“Hundreds of Kenyans go to Russia to pursue higher education,” the Ambassador said.
Tkachenko lauded the strong ties between the two nations, adding that Russia was among the first nations to recognise the independence of the Republic of Kenya in 1963 and offered its assistance in education and healthcare.
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Song’Oei who represented Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi as the chief guest at the celebrations said the relations between Kenya and Russia are founded on shared values, especially in relation to the human rights charter.
He thanked the Russian federation for its support throughout the years.
“I want to appreciate your support in training professionals including doctors, engineers, as well as contribution to literature and arts,” the PS said.
Sing’Oei further commended Russia for its strong support for courses that matter to Africa and the entire global south.
“I wish to applaud Russia for its contribution to decolonization of Africa… Russia has taken a strong position as the sole voice that stands in support of courses that are important to the global south.”
He also wished Russia the best as it marks its National Day.
“I extend our best wishes on the day of Russia to President Vladimir Putin on behalf of the Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi.”
