78 Nigerian women, children rescued from trafficking in Cote d’Ivoire return home

Authorities say some of the traffickers have already been apprehended.

At least 78 Nigerian women and children rescued from trafficking in Cote d’Ivoire have been return home.

In a powerful show of resilience and commitment, 75 young women — aged between 13 and 30 — along with three infants, have safely returned home to Nigeria after being trafficked to Cote d’Ivoire.

"This is a momentous occasion, a day that marks not only the safe return of our beloved daughters, but also a reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to the fight against human trafficking," said Binta Bello, Director of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

Some of the traffickers have already been apprehended, with NAPTIP working closely with international partners to dismantle the networks behind this crime.
