

Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) of Somalia, Ahmed Said Mohamed on held a meeting with the President of Germany Federal Police Dieter Roman during a working visit to the country.
The benchmarking visit is part of Somalia’s efforts to enhance and strengthen its immigration processes, as well as bilateral cooperation.
The two discussed, among other details, experience-sharing and capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Somali immigration officials.
“These efforts align with Somalia’s ongoing commitment to advancing its immigration processes and border security frameworks,” Ahmed said.
The meeting underscored Somalia’s interest in leveraging Germany’s expertise and technical advancements to elevate its own immigration services.
They emphasized on the importance of adopting best practices to enhance operational efficiency and security measures.
The delegation from Somalia also toured Berlin Brandenburg International Airport where they experienced first hand, Germany’s state-of-the-art immigration systems and protocols, including advanced biometric screening and automated entry systems.
“This visit provided invaluable insights into effective strategies for managing the entry of migrants, maintaining the integrity of national borders, and enhancing the traveller experience.”
The delegation also met with senior officials from Germany’s Ministry of the Interior and held discussions on critical issues such as the importance of recognizing Somali passports, fostering mutual respect for travel documentation, and exploring avenues to deepen collaboration between the two nations in immigration and border control.
Both parties expressed a shared commitment to improving the legal and procedural frameworks that facilitate safe and regulated migration.
They also explored opportunities for knowledge exchange, particularly in training programs for immigration officers and technical staff.
Ahmed and Dieter highlighted the importance of equipping personnel with the skills necessary to manage contemporary migration challenges, including combating document fraud and improving service delivery for international travellers.
This visit follows similar high-level engagements with leaders and officials in the United Kingdom, Norway, France, and other countries across Asia and Africa.
These international visits form part of Somalia’s broader strategy to strengthen its immigration frameworks through global partnerships and knowledge exchange.
