Nairobi United coach Edwin Mwaura believes they are still in the hunt for an NSL/FKF Premier League promotion and relegation playoff slot.
Naivas are third on the log with 67 points while Nairobi United are fourth with 63 points. Already, Mara Sugar and Mathare United have sealed the two automatic qualification slots.
“We are still in the race for a playoff slot. Our focus is to win our two remaining games,” said the youthful tactician.
The club will welcome Migori Youth on Saturday at Mpesa Foundation Academy grounds in the penultimate round of the NSL games. Naivas will host relegated Gusii FC at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
“I know it will be a difficult game. We have to work hard qnd get maximum points,” added the tactician.
Speaking after guiding his team to a 3-1 win over relegated Gusii FC, Mwaura hailed his charges.
During the game that was played at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho, Isaac Omweri, Henry Omollo and Rodgers Oporia were on target for Naibos while Kepher Ondati scored Gusii’s consolation goal.
“I knew this game would be tough because Gusii were fighting relegation. Sadly, they went down but that’s football sometimes,” he noted.
Commenting on their debut season in the NSL, Mwaura said: “It has been a good season for us but we want to finish on a high by sealing a playoff slot and if possible FKF Premier League qualification.”
Meanwhile, Mara Sugar face Mathare on Saturday at Awendo Green Stadium in Migori County.
A win for Mara Sugar will see the Cane Millers lift the NSL title. Mara lead the log with 78 points while Mathare United are second with 74 points.
