A teacher in Kisii was Wednesday sentenced to 35 years in jail for defilement.
Etago Magistrate Violet Moguche found the 30-year-old guilty of defiling a Grade 4 minor contrary to section 8 (1) (2) of the Sexual Offences Act
The prosecution said the teacher, on diverse dates of February 2023 and June 2023 within Kisii intentionally defiled a minor aged 8 within a house in the school compound.
In her testimony, the minor told the court the accused had some time in February 2023, finished teaching them but released other pupils and remained with her before dragging her to his house where he defiled her repeatedly.
After the act, the minor said, the teacher threatened to kill her if she dared to tell anyone about it.
Later, however, she confided with the school headteacher who reported the matter to the police, leading to the teacher's arrest.
On Wednesday, Moguche described the incident as revolting, henous and beastly during sentencing.
"Here was a teacher who should protect the learners under his care. Instead, he took advantage of the victim in such a callous manner," she stated.
"In this circumstance, the accused will sentenced to 35 years imprisonment."
