The South Sudan Red Cross has said that the outcome of the 10th Pan-Africa conference of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will help them better equip in response to the disasters.

Speaking in Nairobi on Tuesday, National Society Development Manager of the South Sudan Red Society Emmanuel Lessur said the conference has had a great impact on their team.

He said this will also help them to handle the challenges they have encountered in the last four years better.

"This conference has been very impactful to the South Sudan Red Cross, based on the Abidjan Conference held in 2017 in the sense that we are able to review and develop some policies like Youth and Volunteers Policies/Strategies, Membership drive policy, board code of conduct, and Volunteers Management Information System (VMIS).

"I believe that the outcomes of the 10th Pan African Conference will help SSRC move forward and take into consideration the challenges encountered in the first four years," Lessur said.

He noted that the South Sudan Red Cross has been engaged in a lot of areas in terms of response including man-made to natural disasters.

The SSRC currently has over 21 branches and 102 units, 19,853 volunteers, 4300 registered life and ordinary members, and over 200 staff across the country.

“We are responding to floods in the country, population movement currently, we have also responded to COVID-19 and a lot of man-made and natural disasters like floods, drought and wildfires.”

South Sudan Red Cross was admitted to the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in June 2013 and in November 2013 was admitted to the International Federation of the Red Cross/Cresent Societies as member number 189.
