A man and his son have been arrested in Kerio Valley after they were found with 76 rounds of ammunition and empty magazines for AK-47 and G-3 rifles.
They also found camouflage gear, bows and arrows and a banned chemical.
The arrests were made as the government announced it had profiled more than 350 people suspected to be linked to banditry in the Kerio Valley region.
Rift Valley regional coordinator Maalim Mohammed said those profiled will have to be arrested and processed according to law.
The security team arrested Abraham Kiptum and and his son, Brandon Kilimo, and took them to Tot police station along with evidence.
“Those engaging in criminal acts like banditry should either surrender or we will get them at all costs using all means possible. Banditry must be stopped,"Maalim said.
He said a major security operation to restore lasting peace in the region was underway. More than 110 people have been killed by bandits in the region in the last six month.
The National Police Service said officers carried out an intelligence-led operation at the home of Abraham Kiptum in Kaben Village, Tot division, Marakwet East.
An NPS statement said after a thorough search, officers recovered ammunition for combat rifles. They included 76 rounds of ammunition, seven empty magazines for AK-47s, four empty magazines for G-3 rifles.
Police also recovered camouflage combat gear, Administration Police clothing, 43 arrows, seven bows, three quivers and a banned industrial chemical, Furon.
“NPS lauds members of the public for being vigilant and passing information to security agencies," the NPS statement said.
"We urge them to continue cooperating with security officers in the spirit of community policing to completely restore peace and security in the area."
Two weeks ago, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i visited the area and said the government will carry out what he termed a "painful operation" to rid the region of banditry.
“We cannot accept to have people who have the nerve to mercilessly kill innocent children," Matiang'i said.
Maalim said the government would not relent and that all those possessing illegal guns must surrender them or face confiscation and punishment.
More than 24 guns have been recovered.
