Nigerian singer and songwriter Yemi Alade has been appointed Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Development Programme.
Her goal is to help shine a spotlight on the impact of the health and socioeconomic crisis on the most vulnerable people, who are often women, especially in developing nations.
Speaking in an interview with UNDP, Yemi Alade said she wants to lend her voice to women affected by the corona pandemic and other vulnerable people who make up half the world that’s struggling to make ends meet.
"They don’t have the luxury of working from home and are putting their health at risk just to put food on the table," she said.
Yemi Alade is the first African female Afro-pop artiste to hit over 100 million views on YouTube with four successful albums.
