South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday reinstated the seven-hour nationwide curfew and banned alcohol with immediate effect.

This is after coronavirus cases continue to rise in the country.

"The sale, dispensing and distribution of alcohol will be suspended with immediate effect," Times Live South Africa reported.

Ramaphosa gave a national address on Sunday night.

The curfew will be from 9pm to 4am.

South Africa has 264,000 Covid-19 cases.
