ANC has denied claims that NASA has settled on a flagbearer ahead of the August 8 general elections.

It had been reported that NASA's National Coordinating Committee settled on ODM's Raila Odinga as the presidential candidate and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka as his running mate.

The committee reportedly made its decision on Tuesday, after 60 days of tense negotiations.

Raila, Kalonzo, Moses Wetang’ula and Musalia Mudavadi were expected to meet on Thursday afternoon for a consensus on the matter after talks with IEBC officials.

More on this:

But ANC secretary general Godfrey Osoti

said NASA committee members are not aware of such a decision having been made by them.

"Reports that NASA has reached a decision on the position of flag bearer are erroneous ... We are however aware of many working documents and proposals under discussion in the two committees," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He said there are other factors that need to be considered before they pick on who will lead the country.

"Kenyans should ignore such misleading information and remain steadfast on efforts to unite a majority of Kenya in NASA," he said.

Osoti said ANC is part of the ongoing

competitive and democratic process to unveil the NASA presidential candidate.

He said the Amani party has already

presented to the IEBC the party leader Mudavadi as their flag bearer alongside other aspirants for various seats across the country.

"We strongly vouch for our party leader to be picked to carry the NASA flag into the presidential contest and we have all agreed to back the final mutually agreed line-up, to the last man to ensure a resounding victory," he added.

"We have agreed as the main opposition that no partner will pull out with her supporters if their principal is not picked as the presidential candidate.

"We did not unite to pick a presidential candidate, but to wrestle Jubilee out of power and rescue Kenya from suffering and Jubilee’s toxic misrule," he said.

Earlier in the day, Kalonzo also denied that Raila has been selected NASA flagbearer but confirmed that the decision rests with the principals and not the committee.

The 12-member committee includes economist Dr David Ndii, Nairobi University professor Dr Adams Oloo, Kabarak University law professor Elisha Ongoya, former member of the now-defunct Constitution of Kenya Review Commission Abubakar Zein and ex-Mumias Sugar Company chairman Dan Ameyo.
