Marketing Manager / Print Buyer at Moran Publishers.

An Aries by Zodiac, Njuguna by birth and Timothy by christening. He is a versatile and experienced administrator, who is quick to learn and skilled at working with people.

Njuguna is also gifted in analysing their problems and initiating an appropriate course of action. He was born in Thika and raised in the milk-rich Githunguri, Kiambu county. While fervently feeding and milking his father’s cows, Njuguna attended Githunguri Township Primary School and later joined Kijabe Boys for his high school education. In Kijabe, an acting and writing bug bit him. Njuguna authored plays and poems which won several accolades.

He featured in most of his plays and says the experience was awesome.

Njuguna then joined the United States International University - Africa to pursue a degree in International Business Administration, majoring in Management.

He was also involved in the day-to-day running of a start-up printing firm in Kasarani.

Njuguna, plays two roles at Moran Publishers; as a Print Buyer and as a Marketer.

I am basically a morning person and my day starts at 4:30am. I thank God and count my blessings. I then take a reflective moment to visualise the projects and activities I have began, their current state and what I expect to accomplish before the day ends. Dress up and have a quick breakfast. On my drive to work, I usually like to listen to house rock to liven up my mood.

6:00am: I get to the office, which normally is empty at this time, and organise my “To Do List" by priority. I go through my e-mails and catch up on earlier communication or those that came at night. The quiet morning minutes allow me to spend about an hour and a half trolling through e-mails, asking and providing deliverables. Sometimes, I get to briefly discuss strategies with senior executives, who report early.

7:30am: As the team streams in, it is good to note, in marketing, every day conveys something new; no week is the same. One day we might be putting together a new strategy for a campaign, another day we’ll be executing it, and on another day, analysing and improving it.

On other days we may be meeting with the team. We get together to discuss and review results of all recent events. We go through the numbers; people engaged, revenue, lessons learnt and what we should avoid. We also take a detailed look at what we are executing in the coming weeks.

10.00am: My typical day from here can involve anything from creating or launching a new campaign, implementing the strategies discussed, reporting, updating the website, organising events, answering blog comments, arranging print or online advertising, meeting customers, Teacher training, checking sales movement and reviewing stocks or dealing with suppliers.

I may also do a bit of e-mail marketing, social media, webinars, direct mail, search engine optimisation, advertising, branding, product development, customer retention, PR, etc...

It is extremely varied with very limited daily structure because ad hoc tasks are always called through and due to the type of industry, often require immediate attention. My inbox is never empty.

2:00pm: Time for lunch. We get lunch for free at work every day. I refer to it as 'commando lunch' for I try to take it with lots of pepper and under 15 minutes, to get back to the exciting stuff.

5:30pm: Leave the office and head home to my lovely family to do some home-work or in some cases, to a place where there’s some lively chatter and banter. After the kids have gone to bed, I might catch a movie with my wife until we fall asleep, around 10:00pm.

Saturdays are set aside for socialisation and checking on private projects. We visit friends, interact with new people and party, while Sundays are left exclusively for God and family.
