Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed his commitment to remaining President William Ruto's running mate in the 2027 general elections.
Kindiki dismissed speculation over the position while expressing confidence that the Kenya Kwanza ticket will secure another term in office.
Speaking during the 11th Annual Meru Dairy Farmers' Field Day at the Meru ASK Showground in Gitoro, North Imenti Constituency, Kindiki said he would continue serving alongside President Ruto and urged those eyeing the deputy presidency to abandon their ambitions.
"I want to state it clearly that I will be President William Ruto's running mate in next year's general elections. Those who are salivating for that position should forget it because the Ruto-Kindiki ticket will be on the ballot, and we shall win," said the Deputy President.
Kindiki also called on leaders from the Mt. Kenya region to engage in dialogue and safeguard the unity of the region amid emerging political differences between leaders from Mt. Kenya East and Mt. Kenya West.
He emphasised that political unity was essential for the region to continue speaking with one voice and to effectively negotiate its development interests at the national level.
Earlier, the deputy president officially opened the Meru Maziwa Millers Animal Feeds Factory in Mitunguu, South Imenti Constituency, where he rallied residents of Meru County to support President Ruto's re-election bid in the 2027 General Election.
Kindiki said President Ruto deserved another term owing to the government's development agenda, urging residents to support the Head of State's bid, saying a vote for Ruto would equally be a vote of confidence in his leadership.
"I am asking my people from Meru to follow my direction because voting for President William Ruto is also voting for me. Let us support a leader who has demonstrated commitment to transforming the lives of Kenyans through development projects," he said.
The Deputy President also criticised opposition leaders, arguing that many had previously held senior leadership positions but had little development record to show for their tenure.
He maintained that the Kenya Kwanza administration remained focused on implementing development programmes aimed at improving livelihoods across the country rather than engaging in divisive politics.
Leaders who attended the two events echoed Kindiki's sentiments and appealed to voters in Mt. Kenya West to reciprocate the political support leaders from Mt Kenya East have consistently extended by backing the Ruto-Kindiki ticket in the next General Election.
Among those present were Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, Cooperatives Principal Secretary Patrick Kilemi, Forestry Principal Secretary Gitonga Mugambi, Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, Senator Kathuri Murungi, Deputy Governor Linda Kiome, Meru Woman Representative Elizabeth Kailemia, South Imenti MP Dr. Shadrack Mwiti, Tigania West MP Dr. John Mutunga, Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi, North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood, Nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni and several Members of County Assemblies from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties.
