The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is set to stage a nationwide boycott of court proceedings, citing the Judiciary's alleged failure to adequately address concerns over corruption, delays in the administration of justice, and judicial accountability.
The boycott is expected to see advocates across the country stay away from courtrooms in what the society described as a lawful and proportionate protest aimed at pushing for reforms within the justice system.
In a statement to members signed by LSK President Charles Kanjama, the society said the decision followed months of engagement with the Judiciary that had yielded little progress in resolving longstanding complaints raised by advocates.
"The Society shall undertake a nationwide boycott of court proceedings on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2026, intended to emphasise the seriousness of the concerns raised by members and to call for meaningful institutional interventions that will restore confidence in the administration of justice," Kanjama said.
The council also resolved to begin an indefinite targeted boycott of courts presided over by judges and judicial officers who have allegedly obtained court orders stopping the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) or the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) from investigating or processing complaints against them.
Update on Affordable Housing
The Principal Secretary, State Department for Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga, together with the Affordable Housing Board to hold a press briefing to provide an update on the implementation and progress of the Affordable Housing Programme.
The briefing will share the latest facts and figures on housing delivery, programme financing, homeownership, registrations, employment creation and the Programme’s wider social and economic impact.
It will provide an opportunity to engage with the Programme’s leadership and seek clarification on key areas of implementation.
Launch of the FY 2027/28
The National Treasury will launch the FY 2027/28 and Medium-Term Budget Preparation Process, marking the beginning of the formulation of Kenya's next national budget and medium-term fiscal framework.
The event will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) from 8.30 am.
Treasury said the event is open to the public to promote transparency and inclusiveness in budget formulation.
"Members of the public are encouraged to follow live updates and coverage via the National Treasury's official social media channels."
Health Committee to visit KEMRI
The National Assembly's Committee on Health will conduct a budget implementation oversight visit at KEMRI at 2 pm.
Issues set to arise include the prolonged delay in appointing a substantive Director General. The institution has operated under acting leadership since 2022.
