Agave Affair

With just 72 hours to go before The Agave Affair opens its gates, excitement is building for what promises to be one of Nairobi's most talked-about lifestyle events of the year.

Set for July 25 at the KICC Event Grounds, the festival is a collaboration between Radio Africa Events and the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), bringing together premium tequila, music, food, fashion and culture in a first-of-its-kind experience.

More than 2,000 guests are expected to attend the 10-hour celebration, which runs from 4 pm until 2 am.

Why everyone is talking about it

Tequila is no longer just about shots.

Globally, the spirit has become one of the fastest-growing premium alcohol categories, with more consumers choosing quality, craftsmanship and curated experiences over conventional nightlife.

Yet organisers say nearly 87 per cent of Kenyan consumers have only experienced tequila as a shot.

The Agave Affair aims to change that by introducing guests to the spirit's versatility, from sipping premium expressions to enjoying expertly crafted cocktails.

Named after the blue agave plant from which authentic tequila is made, the festival promises to showcase the drink's heritage while introducing Nairobi to a different way of enjoying it.

Essentials you need to know

The festival takes place at the KICC Event Grounds on Saturday, July 25.

Gates open at 4 pm, and the experience runs until 2 am.

The venue will feature a large main entertainment tent, premium tequila brand activations, cocktail bars, immersive installations, food vendors and dedicated chill-out spaces where guests can relax between performances.

With KICC located in the heart of Nairobi's CBD, attendees will also benefit from the venue's secure and easily accessible location.

The DJs taking over the decks

Music will be one of the biggest attractions throughout the festival.

The entertainment has been curated to evolve throughout the day, beginning with Afrobeats before transitioning into Amapiano, Afro-house, Hip-hop, R&B and Afro-fusion as the night progresses.

The confirmed lineup includes DJ Tophaz, International DJ Big Chipi, Tha Daqchild, DJ Festa and DJ Chunky Love.

Hosting duties will be handled by MC Kibunjah, who is expected to keep the energy high from the opening set until the final performance.

What you'll be eating and drinking

Food has been carefully incorporated into the overall experience rather than treated as an afterthought.

Guests will find a dedicated food court serving tacos, barbecue and sliders designed to complement tequila's distinct flavour profiles.

Cocktail stations will also allow visitors to sample different tequila-based drinks while learning how various expressions pair with different ingredients and preparation styles.

For those interested in premium sipping experiences, brand ambassadors will be on hand to introduce guests to different styles of tequila and explain what makes each unique.

Dress code? Think Agave Chic

Fashion forms part of the experience.

Organisers are encouraging guests to embrace the official Agave Chic dress code, featuring earthy colours, agave greens, linen outfits, flowing dresses, hats and desert-inspired accessories.

The outdoor setting also means comfortable footwear is recommended, with block heels, boots and stylish flats likely to be more practical than stilettos.

The overall aesthetic has been described as a blend of contemporary festival fashion and Nairobi sophistication.

Why you shouldn't wait

With the countdown now underway, organisers say tickets continue to sell quickly as anticipation builds for Kenya's first dedicated tequila festival.

Individual tickets are available for Sh1,500, while groups of five can attend for Sh6,000 through Ticketyetu.
