Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has said the mausoleum being constructed in honour of his late brother will be completed within the next two months.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on Monday in Bondo, Oburu expressed confidence that the monument would meet the standards and dignity befitting the legacy of his brother
"We want to complete the mausoleum in two months, and I hope the quality will be good and as modern as the young people want it. I hope it will deserve the dignity that my brother deserved," Oburu said.
He further revealed that he had initially proposed a different architectural concept for the mausoleum, but younger designers convinced him to embrace a more contemporary design, arguing that his ideas were outdated.
The mausoleum is being built to preserve the legacy of the late leader and serve as a lasting memorial honouring his contribution to the country.
Once completed, the modern structure is expected to become a key site for visitors wishing to pay tribute to his life and achievements.
The new mausoleum will feature a symbolic design centred around the number five, with five steps leading down to the grave forming the heart of the structure.
Architects said the number five has been deliberately incorporated throughout the design concept, giving the monument both symbolic and architectural significance.
The grave will be surrounded by a four-metre buffer space separating it from the walls, allowing mourners and visitors to walk around the site comfortably.
In addition to the burial chamber, the mausoleum will house mini exhibitions along its interior walls, showcasing key moments from Raila Odinga's life and public service.
Visitors will also be able to access a digital archive through a QR code system, which will store a comprehensive account of Raila's life, leadership and legacy, offering an interactive experience for those touring the memorial.
Raila died on October 15, 2025, at the age of 80 while undergoing medical treatment in Kochi, India.
He was laid to rest on October 19, 2025, at Kang'o ka Jaramogi in Siaya County, in accordance with his wishes. He was buried beside his mother, Mary Ajuma Odinga.
