President William Ruto on Monday bid farewell to outgoing European Union Ambassador to Kenya and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Henriette Geiger at State House, Nairobi, ahead of the end of her diplomatic tour of duty later this month.
The President commended Ambassador Geiger for her role in strengthening the long-standing partnership between Kenya and the European Union, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, climate action, governance and regional peace and security.
The Head of State also recognised the growing collaboration between Kenya and the EU on sustainable development initiatives and reaffirmed the government's commitment to deepening bilateral ties for mutual benefit.
Geiger's departure comes as Kenya and the European Union mark 50 years of diplomatic relations.
The partnership has evolved from development cooperation to encompass economic growth, education, environmental conservation and regional stability.
Appointed EU Ambassador to Kenya in September 2021, Geiger oversaw a period of enhanced engagement between Kenya and the EU, including the rollout of the EPA and strengthened cooperation on climate change and governance.
President Ruto wished the outgoing envoy success in her future assignments and reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to maintaining strong and mutually beneficial relations with the European Union.
