Facebook users experienced a disruption affecting the platform's desktop version, leaving many unable to access the social media site through web browsers.
The outage appeared to primarily affect users accessing Facebook via desktop browsers, including many in Kenya.
Those who tried to access their accounts were hit with an error message, "Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."
Despite the disruption, the Facebook mobile application remained accessible and continued to function normally for most users, allowing them to browse feeds, post updates and send messages without interruption.
The cause of the outage was not immediately clear, and there was no immediate indication of how many users had been affected or how long the disruption would last.
Such outages occasionally affect Meta-owned platforms, disrupting access for users across different regions before services are restored.
