Police probe killing of motorcyclist in Bungoma

The 39-year-old man's body was found beside his motorcycle in Kabwoyo Forest

Police have launched investigations into the murder of a 39-year-old man whose body was found along a forest road in Kabwoyo Forest in Mt Elgon Sub-county, Bungoma County.

The deceased, identified as Griffin Kipchumba Neibei, was found lying by the roadside with his throat slit in what police suspect was a brutal killing.

According to police, the incident was reported at about 9.30 p.m., although the murder is believed to have occurred at around 6.30 p.m.

Officers visited the scene and found the deceased's red motorcycle lying nearby. The scene was documented before the body was moved to Kimilili Santee Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said the motive for the killing remains unknown, and no arrests had been made by the time of filing the report. Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder and identify those responsible.

In a separate incident, a fisherman who was attacked by a hippopotamus while fishing at Lake Mikimba in Magarini Sub-county, Kilifi County, has been found dead after a search operation.

Police said the body of Kalume Kalama was recovered from the lake on Wednesday evening following the attack.

The deceased is reported to have been fishing when he was attacked by the wild animal and disappeared into the water.

According to police, the body bore severe injuries to both hands and the lower abdomen, consistent with a hippopotamus attack.

Police officers visited and documented the scene before the body was moved to Malindi Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the incident as authorities continue to urge residents living near water bodies inhabited by hippos to exercise caution, especially while fishing and carrying out other activities along the shoreline.

Elsewhere, police in Bungoma County are investigating after the body of an unidentified man was retrieved from River Nzoia in Webuye West Sub-county.

The incident was reported after a village elder alerted authorities that a body had been spotted floating in the river near the Machakha area.

Police responded to the scene with the assistance of local residents and volunteer searchers.

The body of a man believed to be about 30 years old was recovered from the river. He was dressed in a yellow T-shirt and black shorts.

Police said the body had no visible physical injuries.

The scene was photographed and documented before the body was transferred to Webuye County Hospital Mortuary, where it will undergo a post-mortem examination and await identification by relatives.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the deceased's identity and determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
