A baby allegedly stolen after the child's mother was lured with a fake job offer has been rescued, with four suspects now in police custody following an operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
According to the DCI, the infant was reunited with the mother after detectives tracked down the suspects more than a week after the child disappeared in Embakasi.
The incident is believed to have occurred when the mother, who had been searching for employment, reportedly met a man who claimed he could help her secure a job.
"The ordeal unfolded on July 8, 2026, when a job-seeking mother in Pipeline, Embakasi, encountered a man who promised her employment at a nearby hotel," DCI said in a statement.
Unable to leave her baby alone, the woman accompanied the man, who allegedly persuaded her to leave the infant in the care of a woman said to be operating a nearby business while they finalised the employment arrangements.
However, moments later, the man disappeared.
The mother immediately rushed back to collect her baby, only to find that both the woman and the child had vanished.
After unsuccessfully trying to reach the suspects, she reported the matter at Kware Police Station, prompting investigations by Embakasi detectives.
The DCI said detectives launched an extensive investigation that led them to Kware Mabatini on July 16, where they identified and arrested four suspects.
A search at one of the suspects' residences led to the rescue of the missing baby, who was found safe and later reunited with the mother.
The four suspects remain in police custody as detectives complete investigations ahead of their arraignment in court.
While confirming the rescue, the DCI described the case as one in which a mother's search for employment turned into a terrifying ordeal after she was allegedly targeted by a deceptive scheme.
Police urged members of the public to exercise caution when responding to job offers from strangers and to promptly report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
The DCI also encouraged Kenyans with information on criminal activities to share it through its anonymous reporting channels.
