Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday night celebrated what he described as a historic performance for his DCP in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election after the IEBC officially declared the final results.

In a statement, Gachagua congratulated DCP candidate Sammy Waweru Kamau Ngotho after he won the election with a commanding lead over his closest rival, UDA's Samuel Muchina Nyagah.

"Congratulations, Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, on your historic election as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency. You have won by a resounding margin, reflecting the unmistakable voice of the people," Gachagua said.

He thanked the residents of Ol Kalou for electing what he described as DCP's first member of the National Assembly and praised them for "refusing to sell your birthright" and resisting what he termed deception through development promises.

Gachagua also commended voters for protecting the electoral process despite alleging intimidation during the campaign.

"Thank you a million times for guarding your vote and for standing firm despite the actions of rogue police officers armed with guns and tear gas," he said.

The former Deputy President described the anticipated victory as a boost to his political movement, saying it would strengthen his efforts to champion the interests of Kenyans.

"I have been struggling with 18 soldiers but with great results; now I have 19. Things will be much better," he said.

He also praised Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Woman Representative Wanjiku Muhia for leading the party's three-month campaign, describing their leadership as exemplary.

Gachagua further thanked senators, Members of Parliament, MCAs, campaign teams, volunteers and party supporters for their commitment throughout the campaign period.

He announced plans to tour all five wards in Ol Kalou on Friday to thank voters personally, saying he had been directed by the local community to do so.

Despite Gachagua's victory message, the IEBC had not officially declared the winner of the by-election by Thursday night.

The electoral commission is expected to announce the final results after completing the verification and tallying of returns from all polling stations, with only the Returning Officer mandated to officially declare the winner.
