
Detectives launched investigations after a Grade 10 student died following an alleged fight with a fellow student at Thika High School in Kiambu county.
The incident occurred at about 10 pm on Friday after evening preps, when students had gathered for routine evening prayers.
According to police, the school’s management reported that two Grade 10 students had fought and one had collapsed after falling to the ground.
The victim, aged 15, was found unconscious on the floor of a second-floor classroom.
He was rushed to the school dispensary, where the school nurse administered first aid before he was referred to Thika Level 5 Hospital for specialised treatment.
However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, officials said.
Police officers visited the scene and launched investigations.
Preliminary findings indicate that the victim and a fellow Grade 10 student, aged 15, became involved in a physical altercation.
During the fight, the victim allegedly fell and struck his head on the floor, leaving him unconscious.
The body was transferred to the General Kago Mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
The said assistant was arrested and placed in police custody to assist detectives with investigations into the incident.
The parents of the victims have demanded justice in the tragedy.
Meanwhile, police are investigating the murder of a 25-year-old trader who was found dead outside his kiosk in Gede Centre, Ganze Sub-County, Kilifi County.
The
victim, identified as Abdikarim Isaak Yunis, was discovered lying outside his
shop at around 1.30 a.m. on Saturday after neighbours reported hearing a
commotion.
According to police, a resident responded to the disturbance and found Yunis lying motionless on the ground with a deep cut wound to the neck believed to have been inflicted by unknown attackers.
Police officers from visited the scene and confirmed the death.
Police said the deceased, a 25-year-old Somali man, had sustained a deep cut wound to the neck, as well as additional cut wounds on the right leg and abdomen, indicating a violent attack.
Crime scene investigators processed the scene, but no suspect had been arrested by the time the report was filed.
The motive for the killing has not been established, and detectives are pursuing several leads.
The body was taken to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination as investigations continue, police said.
