Nairobi's premium lifestyle scene is about to welcome a new experience as The Agave Affair prepares to debut at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on July 25, bringing together tequila lovers, first-time explorers and lifestyle enthusiasts for what organisers describe as the city's first dedicated premium tequila festival.
More than just another social event, The Agave Affair seeks to introduce Nairobi to the culture, craftsmanship and heritage behind one of the world's fastest-growing premium spirits while creating a space where guests can discover new brands, enjoy curated entertainment and experience tequila beyond the familiar party shot.
With anticipation building ahead of the July 25 festival, tickets are available at Sh1,500 for general admission, while groups of five can attend for Sh6,000, offering a discounted rate for those planning to experience the event together.
Organised by Radio Africa Events in partnership with KICC, the festival comes at a time when tequila is increasingly finding its place among premium spirits across East Africa, with growing interest from younger consumers seeking more refined lifestyle experiences.
More than a drink
At the heart of the festival is the agave plant, the ingredient that gives tequila its distinctive identity.
Every bottle begins with the Blue Weber agave, a plant that typically takes between seven and 10 years to mature before it can be harvested in Mexico's volcanic soils.
That lengthy growing process reflects the patience and craftsmanship behind tequila production, making it one of the few spirits whose story begins nearly a decade before the bottle reaches consumers.
Rather than focusing purely on consumption, The Agave Affair aims to celebrate that journey, allowing guests to understand how tequila is made, how different brands express unique flavour profiles and why the spirit has become part of a global premium lifestyle movement.

From shots to sipping
For many Kenyans, tequila has traditionally been associated with quick shots during nights out.
The Agave Affair hopes to change that perception.
Instead, organisers are positioning tequila as a sophisticated sipping spirit that can also be enjoyed through carefully crafted cocktails and premium tasting experiences.
Guests will have the opportunity to sample different tequila styles, interact with brand ambassadors and discover how production methods influence taste, aroma and character.
Among the traditional techniques celebrated is the Tahona method, in which harvested agave is crushed with a massive volcanic stone wheel, preserving centuries-old production traditions still practised by many premium producers.
Visitors will also learn fascinating facts behind some of the world's best-known tequila brands, from individually hand-blown bottles to hidden packaging details that pay tribute to family histories and regional heritage.
The festival also aims to clear up one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding tequila.
Contrary to popular belief, authentic tequila does not contain a worm inside the bottle. That characteristic belongs to certain mezcals, not tequila, which is governed by strict production regulations in Mexico.

A full-day lifestyle experience
Running for 10 hours from afternoon into the night, The Agave Affair has been designed as a complete lifestyle festival rather than a conventional drinks event.
A large Main Tent will serve as the central attraction, surrounded by brand activations, cocktail stations, premium tasting zones and interactive experiences designed to encourage exploration.
Guests can also expect a wide selection of food offerings ranging from Mexican-inspired flavours such as tacos to barbecue favourites and gourmet festival cuisine.
Networking spaces and relaxed social areas will allow visitors to unwind between tasting sessions, discover new products, and meet fellow enthusiasts.
The experience is expected to attract more than 2,000 guests.
Music, entertainment and immersive experiences
Entertainment forms a major part of the festival experience.
Organisers promise a carefully curated musical journey featuring Afrobeats, Amapiano and Afro-house as day transitions into night.
While several performers are expected to headline the event, organisers say additional Vibe Curators, DJs and surprise acts will be announced in the coming weeks as the programme continues to take shape.
The evolving entertainment lineup is intended to keep anticipation high while ensuring guests enjoy a dynamic festival atmosphere from start to finish.

Why KICC?
The Kenyatta International Convention Centre provides a fitting backdrop for an event positioning itself as Nairobi's premium tequila experience.
Located in the heart of the city, KICC offers easy accessibility for guests while providing expansive outdoor grounds capable of accommodating multiple themed zones, entertainment stages, hospitality areas and premium brand experiences.
Its established reputation for hosting international conferences, exhibitions, concerts and major lifestyle events also makes it well suited for an immersive festival of this scale.
The venue's spacious lawns will allow organisers to create distinct festival sections including tasting areas, food courts, cocktail lounges and chill-out spaces, all designed around the event's premium aesthetic.
Dress the part
The Agave Affair is encouraging guests to embrace an "Agave Chic" dress code inspired by earthy colours, agave greens, linen fabrics and relaxed contemporary fashion.
The style complements the festival's vision of blending premium hospitality with laid-back elegance, creating an atmosphere that organisers describe as "Coachella meets Nairobi."
Rather than simply attending a drinks event, guests are invited to become part of the experience through fashion, photography, food and immersive brand activations.
A new chapter for Nairobi's lifestyle scene
The Agave Affair reflects a broader shift in Nairobi's entertainment landscape, where consumers are increasingly embracing curated lifestyle experiences built around culture, craftsmanship and premium hospitality.
By combining tequila education, music, fashion, networking, food and entertainment under one roof, the festival aims to create an annual celebration that introduces Kenyans to the wider world of agave spirits while redefining how tequila is experienced.
With more DJs, Vibe Curators, entertainment acts and interactive experiences still to be unveiled, anticipation continues to build ahead of July 25, when Nairobi will host what promises to be one of the city's most distinctive lifestyle events of the year.
