Police say four men who were shot dead along the Eldoret-Kiplombe-Soy Road in Eldoret have been linked to the murder of PCEA cleric Reverend Julius Ndumia.
According to police, detectives investigating the killing established forensic links between the four suspects and the murder of Ndumia, who was attacked on May 3, 2026, at PCEA Tabuga Church in Nakuru North Sub-County.
Police said some of the attackers wore military uniforms during the attack and that similar uniforms were later recovered from what investigators described as the gang's operational hideout in Huruma, Eldoret.
Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin said investigators believe the four suspects were involved in the cleric's murder.
"We believe the gang was behind the murder of the cleric and a series of other incidents," Amin said.
Earlier, two suspects were arrested and charged with robbery with violence in connection with the incident.
They were later released by the Nakuru Law Courts on a bond of Sh300,000 each.
Police allege the two were found in possession of mobile phones and SIM cards believed to have been stolen from Ndumia's residence.
Investigators believe the killing occurred during a robbery.
According to police, some of the suspects were later captured on security cameras withdrawing money using the deceased's mobile phone before allegedly sharing the cash among themselves.
The four suspects were shot dead on Monday morning during what police described as an ambush.
Police said detectives from the DCI Soy office acted on intelligence reports that four armed men, allegedly dressed in police uniforms, had been terrorising motorists and residents along the Eldoret-Kiplombe-Soy Road.
According to police, the suspects opened fire after spotting the officers, prompting detectives to return fire. Four suspects were fatally wounded, while an unknown number of their alleged accomplices escaped towards Eldoret town on three motorcycles.
Police said a search at the scene led to the recovery of a Falcon pistol loaded with four rounds of 9×19mm ammunition, a homemade pistol, a hammer mallet, crude breaking tools, balaclava masks, gloves, strings and one spent cartridge.
