Ex-Radio Africa journalist Rose Mbugua to be laid to rest today

Former Radio Africa journalist Rose Mbugua will be laid to rest today at her family home in Limuru.

This is one week after she died in a tragic road accident in Nairobi.

Family, friends, colleagues and members of the media fraternity are expected to gather to pay their final respects to the 24-year-old journalist, whose promising career was cut short on July 17.

According to the funeral programme, mourners are scheduled to arrive at the family home from 8 am, followed by prayers and body viewing at 9 am.

The cortege is then expected to depart at 9:30 am for the burial venue, arriving at around 10:30 m.

A church service will be held at noon before the procession to the gravesite, where family and loved ones will bid her a final farewell.

Rose died in a road accident along Uhuru Highway near the University of Nairobi roundabout.

Her death sent shockwaves through Kenya's media industry, with colleagues remembering her as a hardworking, talented and dedicated journalist whose passion for storytelling had already started to leave a mark despite her young age.

Rose built an impressive career within a short period, working with some of the country's well-known media organisations.

She started her professional journey in early 2025 when she joined Blue Radio Kenya in Mombasa as an intern.

During the three-month internship, she distinguished herself through her commitment, creativity and professionalism, earning praise from her supervisors.

Her outstanding performance led to her recruitment by Radio Africa Group, where she expanded her skills in journalism, video editing and digital media.

While at the media house, she also worked with The Star, focusing on digital health reporting.

In that role, she produced health-related content that resonated with readers and helped build a growing online audience.

Colleagues described her as an innovative journalist who approached every assignment with diligence and a desire to make information accessible to the public.

Beyond her professional achievements, Rose is being remembered as a warm, humble and kind-hearted individual who inspired those around her with her determination and positive outlook.
