
Three members of the same family died after a fire razed their timber house in Embu County early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at about 6:20 a.m. in Morara Village, Kianjokoma Sub-location.
Police officers who responded to the scene established that a three-room timber house had been engulfed by flames, trapping the occupants inside.
The victims were identified as Caudasia Ruguru, 55, Lucy Rwamba, 60, and Rodgers Gitonga, 20, Lucy Rwamba's son. All three perished in the blaze and were burnt beyond recognition.
According to police, the deceaseds' brother said he was awakened by a loud sound and, upon stepping outside, found the house completely engulfed in flames.
He raised the alarm, and together with neighbours, attempted to extinguish the fire, but the inferno was too intense.
The area chief was notified and alerted police, who responded to the scene.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) processed the scene, while Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel documented the incident.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and investigations are underway.
