Kenya Railways has warned members of the public against fraudulent websites and online platforms posing as official booking channels for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the corporation said the fake platforms are designed to deceive unsuspecting customers into purchasing train tickets through unauthorised channels.

Kenya Railways cautioned that members of the public risk losing money and exposing their personal information by using the fraudulent websites.

"These fraudulent platforms are designed to deceive customers into making payments through unauthorized channels, resulting in financial loss and possible compromise of personal information," the corporation said.

To protect passengers from fraud, Kenya Railways urged travellers to book Madaraka Express tickets only through its authorised booking channels.

The corporation said online bookings should only be made through its official ticketing platform, while customers may also book tickets using its designated USSD code or by visiting any Madaraka Express Passenger Service station across the country.

Kenya Railways also advised members of the public to verify any communication purporting to come from the corporation.

It said official communication regarding the Madaraka Express Passenger Service will only be made through its designated telephone numbers.

"The Corporation will not be held liable for any issues arising from bookings or calls made outside the official channels listed above," the notice said.

The warning comes as the corporation seeks to protect passengers from online fraud and ensure travellers use only verified booking platforms when purchasing train tickets.

Kenya Railways urged customers to remain vigilant when making online transactions and to avoid making payments through websites or platforms that are not recognised by the corporation.

The corporation reiterated that bookings for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service should only be made through its official online booking platform, the designated USSD code or at Madaraka Express Passenger Service stations countrywide.
