Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo has led the legal fraternity in mourning the death of advocate Esther Keige, describing her death as a heartbreaking tragedy and calling for those responsible to be brought to justice.
In a statement shared on her X account, Odhiambo said the discovery of Keige's body brought a devastating end to weeks of anxious searching after the advocate went missing on June 9.
"After weeks of frantic searching since 9th June, our colleague Esther Wairimu Keige, Advocate, was discovered dead in Gatundu Forest," Odhiambo wrote.
She expressed heartfelt condolences to Keige's family, friends and members of the legal profession, saying the loss had deeply shaken the country's legal community.
"My heart goes out to her family, friends and the wider legal fraternity as we grapple with this unspeakable tragedy. May they draw strength even as they walk through this valley of grief," she said.
Odhiambo also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the advocate's death, insisting that justice must be served.
"We remain steadfast in demanding that those behind this heinous act be traced, subjected to due process and held fully accountable under the law," she stated.
Keige, who served as the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) Legal Services Manager, had been reported missing after she was last seen leaving her office along Kiambu Road on June 10. Following weeks of public appeals by her family, colleagues and KFS, her body was discovered in a coffee plantation near the Karimenu area of Juja in Kiambu county. Police have since launched investigations to establish the cause of her death, with a post-mortem examination expected to provide further details.
The discovery has sent shockwaves across the legal fraternity, where colleagues have remembered Keige as a dedicated advocate and public servant. The Law Society of Kenya has also called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, saying those responsible must face the full force of the law.
As investigators continue piecing together Keige's final movements, her family, friends and colleagues are now seeking answers after weeks of hope ended in tragedy.
