The Ministry of Defence has announced a vacancy for the position of Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans, inviting qualified retired general officers to apply for the role.
In a public notice dated July 8, the ministry said the vacancy will arise on August 4, 2026, in accordance with the Military Veterans Act, Cap 199A, Laws of Kenya.
The recruitment is being undertaken pursuant to Sections 10(1), 10(2)(a), 11(a), 11(c) and 12 of the Act, which establishes the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans.
According to the notice, only retired general officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) or the former Armed Forces are eligible to apply.
Applicants must also meet the integrity and leadership requirements set out under Chapter Six of the Constitution.
"The Ministry of Defence is pleased to announce to the public an upcoming vacancy in the Office of the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans with effect from August 4, 2026," the notice reads.
It adds that eligible candidates "must be a retired general officer of the Armed Forces or the Kenya Defence Forces" and must satisfy the constitutional requirements on leadership and integrity.
Interested candidates have been given 21 days from the date of the notice to submit their applications.
The ministry said applications should include the applicant's full personal identification details, career particulars and a statement outlining the reasons and motivation for seeking the position.
"Application to be in writing within twenty-one days from the date of this notice," the ministry said.
Applications should be addressed to the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Defence, at Ulinzi House in Nairobi.
Candidates may also deliver physical copies through the Ulinzi Gate.
The Advisory Committee on Military Veterans plays a key role in advising the government on policies and programmes affecting retired military personnel and their welfare.
The committee is established under the Military Veterans Act to promote the interests of veterans, advise on benefits and entitlements, and support initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of former members of the Kenya Defence Forces.
The announcement comes as the government continues implementing reforms and programmes intended to strengthen support for military veterans, including improving access to healthcare, pensions and other welfare services.
Successful candidates are expected to provide strategic leadership to the committee and help shape policies affecting retired servicemen and women across the country.
