Detectives have recovered military-style clothing and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities after raiding a suspected gang hideout in Eldoret, a day after a police operation targeting an alleged criminal group in the area.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the operation followed intelligence gathered after an earlier security operation in which four suspected gang members were fatally shot along the Eldoret-Kiplombe-Soy Road.
The DCI said detectives raided a house in the Sungura area of Huruma, where preliminary investigations indicate the premises may have been used as a base for the group's operations.
During a search of the house, detectives recovered several items that investigators believe could assist ongoing investigations.
The recovered items included five Kenya Defence Forces jungle jackets, a heavy wedge hammer, a crowbar, two mobile phones and other exhibits.
The DCI said investigators suspect the recovered military-style attire could be linked to a criminal network that allegedly disguised itself as police and military officers while carrying out violent robberies in parts of the Rift Valley region.
The agency said investigations are ongoing and did not indicate whether any arrests were made during the raid.
Crime Scene Investigation officers documented and processed the scene before securing all the recovered items for forensic examination.
The forensic analysis is expected to help investigators establish the origin of the recovered items and determine whether they are connected to other criminal incidents under investigation.
The DCI also said detectives are pursuing other individuals believed to be connected to the suspected criminal network as efforts continue to establish the full scope of its operations.
The agency appealed to members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement officers by sharing information that could assist ongoing investigations.
"We thank members of the public for their continued vigilance and support in the fight against crime," DCI said, adding that public cooperation remains critical in detecting and preventing criminal activities.
The latest recovery comes as security agencies continue operations targeting organised criminal groups alleged to be involved in violent crime in parts of the country.
