Filmmakers, exhibitors and distributors can now apply for licences online after the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) expanded its digital services in a move aimed at making licensing faster, cheaper and more convenient.

The Board said it has enhanced access to its licensing services through its Technical Management System (TMS) and the eCitizen platform as part of a wider push to digitise public services and improve the ease of doing business in Kenya's creative industry.

In a statement posted on its official X account, KFCB said the initiative is intended to streamline service delivery by allowing stakeholders to submit licence applications electronically without visiting its offices.

"The Kenya Film Classification Board continues to automate and digitise its services to enhance service delivery and promote ease of doing business for film practitioners and other industry stakeholders," the Board said.

According to KFCB, the online platforms have simplified the licensing process for filmmakers, film agents, exhibitors and distributors by making applications more efficient, convenient and cost-effective.

Under the new system, users can apply for licences through the Board's Technical Management System, while additional services are also available on the government's eCitizen platform.

"Stakeholders can apply for licences conveniently at the click of a button through the Board's Technical Management System (TMS)," KFCB said.

The Board also urged filmmakers and members of the public to use its digital platforms to access information on its mandate, programmes and services.

Besides licensing, users can obtain information through KFCB's official website and seek assistance via its Live Chat feature and social media platforms.

KFCB is mandated to regulate the creation, broadcasting, distribution, exhibition and possession of film and audiovisual content in Kenya. It said the expanded digital services are expected to reduce processing times, improve customer experience and create a more business-friendly environment for the country's film industry.
